Flow enhancement of electrical fluctuations in polymer solutions and melts

چکیده
We show that the origin of the enhanced electrical fluctuations under flow, observed over the last is years in polymer solutions, can be traced back to a dissipative cross coupling between the strain tensor (characterizing transient polymeric networks) and electric fields. Additional experiments to further test our picture are suggested.

Prediction of multiple overshoots in shear stress during fast flows of bidisperse polymer melts
We present a differential constitutive model of stress relaxation in polydisperse linear polymer melts and solutions that contains contributions from reptation, contour-length fluctuations, and chain stretching. The predictions of the model during fast start-up and steady shear flows of polymer melts are in accord with experimental observations. Moreover, in accordance with reported experimenta...
متن کاملWall Slip and Boundary Effects in Polymer Shear Flows
Polymer – surface interactions strongly influence many important industrial and rheological flows. In particular, polymer melts and solutions slip against the surface; this has long been associated with sharkskin and spurt in extrusion, and recent experimental observations suggest that slip also plays a role in the formation of enhanced concentration fluctuations in entangled polymer solutions....
متن کاملDevelopment of a rheological model for polymeric fluids based on FENE model
Rheological models for polymer solutions and melts based on the finitely extensible non-linear elastic (FENE) dumbbell theory are reviewed in this study. The FENE-P model that is a well-known Peterlin approximation of the FENE model, indicates noticeable deviation from original FENE predictions and also experimental results, especially in the transient flow. In addition, both FENE and FENE-P mo...
متن کاملConstitutive modeling of macromolecular fluids
Macromolecular or polymeric liquids consist of polymer solutions, polymer melts, particle suspension fluids, and many biological fluids. Polymer solutions are made of polymers dissolved in solutions or solvent; polymer melts are molten polymers; particle suspension fluids consist of solid particles suspended in a matrix fluid which may be a viscous or viscoelastic fluid, blood flows consist of ...
